The Executive Directors of the World Bank have sanctioned a loan of Rs 7.7 billion for the Clean Air and Prosperity Initiative in Nepal, aimed at diminishing industrial air pollution and enhancing air quality management procedures.
This project intends to cut down fine particulate matter (PM2.5) emissions from industrial and commercial heating systems by endorsing cleaner and more efficient technologies. It will also fortify Nepal’s national frameworks for monitoring and managing air quality.
As per David Sislen, Division Director for the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, “Air pollution poses not only a public health challenge but also a considerable economic strain for Nepal, costing over six percent of GDP each year due to health expenditures and decreased labor productivity.”
The initiative is anticipated to safeguard millions of individuals from hazardous pollution while fostering sustainable industrial development.
