The US administration has withdrawn $39 million (Rs 5.39 billion) designated for Nepal’s fiscal federalism and biodiversity preservation projects. These reductions are part of a larger strategy to retract millions in international aid across various sectors.
The Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) took to X on Sunday to declare that it has canceled the funds intended for Nepal alongside several other countries. Nepal was anticipated to receive $20 million for fiscal federalism and $19 million for biodiversity preservation. These amounts were part of a broad range of international aid allocations that have now been nullified, including $40 million aimed at gender equality initiatives and $47 million for enhancing educational outcomes in Asia.
The choice to cease these programs indicates a reevaluation of US taxpayer-funded endeavors abroad, impacting numerous nations, including Bangladesh, Serbia, and Cambodia.
