The regular transport of oil products through pipelines from India’s Motihari to Amlekhgunj in Bara has commenced. The Madhes Regional Office of Nepal Oil Corporation in Amlekhgunj announced that the transit of oil products, such as gasoline and kerosene, has initiated following the completion of the Intra-national Petroleum Pipeline Expansion project.
Pralayankar Acharya, the head of Nepal Oil Corporation’s Madhes Province Office at Amlekhgunj, reported that the entire petroleum pipeline expansion has been finalized and that the consistent import of oil products via the pipeline has started recently.
“However, gasoline and kerosene have already begun to be imported through the pipeline,” stated Chief Acharya, “We have now officially begun distributing the petrol imported from the pipeline to the storage depots in major urban centers across the nation.”
As part of the pipeline expansion initiative, two fuel tanks with a capacity of 4,100 kiloliters, two transmix tanks capable of holding 250 kiloliters, 24 fully automated loading refillers for gasoline transport, a pump house, and a laboratory have been established at the Indian Oil Corporation’s depot in Amlekhgunj.
Additionally, this project has seen upgrades to the ‘Fire Fighting System’, the ‘OWS System’ for separating water and oil, and the PMCC Cell has also been implemented.
Likhita Infrastructure was entrusted with the completion of all construction by 2023. Chief Acharya indicated that the pipeline expansion work was finalized only a few days ago due to various factors. Moreover, Indian Oil Corporation has constructed two transmix tanks designed to store blended fuel that can consist of both gasoline and diesel, along with a firewater tank with a capacity of 3000 kiloliters for safety within the depot.
Upon project completion, the diesel storage capacity at the Amlekhgunj depot will reach 24,840 kiloliters, while the gasoline storage capacity will be 16,630 kiloliters.
