The Nepal Government has launched an online labor permit approval service from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Nepal’s Embassy in Abu Dhabi stands as the nation’s second diplomatic post overseas to offer labor permit approval services, following the Embassy of Nepal in Muscat.
Mr. Sarat Singh Bhandari, Ministerfor Labour, Employment and Social Security inaugurated the service during an event in Dubai on Thursday, as reported by the Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi. During the ceremony, Minister Bhandari mentioned that the government plans to progressively enhance services by streamlining processes, improving accessibility, and adopting technology, all with the aim of supporting Nepali migrant workers in their host countries. He noted that the online labor permit approval would greatly assist Nepali workers as they could maintain their careers and business without returning to Nepal for document updates. Minister Bhandari indicated that this initiative would soon be rolled out from other diplomatic missions as well. Highlighting the significant number of young individuals employed abroad and foreign employment being a primary source of remittance, Minister Bhandari emphasized the need for contextual policies to safeguard the rights of Nepali migrant workers as part of improved migration governance.
Similarly, Tej Bahadur Oli, the Ambassador of Nepal to the UAE, affirmed the Embassy’s dedication to advocating for the rights of Nepali migrants and mentioned the efforts being made to offer effective service despite limited resources.
The Nepalese Embassy in Abu Dhabi noted that representatives from various diaspora organizations, including the Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA), were in attendance at the event. An interactive session on labor issues was also held during the occasion.
Minister Bhandari traveled to Dubai to participate in the World Government Summit 2025, which took place from February 11-13.
