The authorities have resolved to increase charges for public transportation and cargo vehicles. The Department of Transport Administration is currently executing the updated fare framework following the ministry’s preliminary endorsement.
As per Saroj Sitaula, Senior Vice President of the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs, public transportation costs have surged by 16.71 percent. In addition, freight fees have risen by 21.68 percent for vehicles operating in mountainous areas and 15.75 percent for those functioning in the Terai region.
The transportation management department has noted that the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has already granted initial approval for the adjustment. A comprehensive overview of the revised fare rates is anticipated to be released shortly on the department’s official website.
Transport operators have long advocated for fare changes, citing the escalating international fuel prices and various operational expenditures. With the upcoming rates about to take effect, experts predict there may be an increase in daily commuting costs as well as the prices of goods.
