The government has removed Kulman Ghising from his role as the Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) as per the resolution reached during the Cabinet assembly on Monday.
Ghising had been reappointed as NEA’s Executive Director for his second term on Shrawan 25, 2078, following a decision by the previous Cabinet. His four-year period was scheduled to end on Shrawan 24, 2082. Nevertheless, the authorities opted to dismiss him prior to the end of his term.
Ghising had become embroiled in controversy in recent months, especially concerning the dedicated and trunk power lines provided to industries. Conflicts emerged between him and the government over the severing of power lines to industries that owed electricity payments.
Previously, the NEA had disconnected dedicated and trunk lines for industries due to unpaid electricity bills. However, after the establishment of the government headed by CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, a choice was made to restore power supply to these industries.
